While the Merrillville Curves is a workout facility to train and strengthen each woman who enrolls there, it has also reached out to help the homeless and at-risk women of Sojourner Truth House in Gary.
In a multi-faceted charitable effort, said Merrillville Curves Owner Pamela Keith, an annual food drive became a contest for the Curves members who brought in the most donated food, resulting in more than 1,300 pounds of food.

When a group of ladies and a few men carried their appetizers and desserts through the after-hours doors of the Peoples Bank Hobart Banking Center recently, they were there to raise funds for the needy clients of Sojourner Truth House in Gary.
The event, known as Womenade, was founded in 2003 to bring community-minded women together to provide short-term financial assistance for those in need.

GARY, IN – March 26, 2012 – A room inside Sojourner Truth House has been converted into a new Child Enrichment Center, thanks to the creativity and generosity of some Northwest Indiana partners.
The newly refurbished room, which opened March 20 at the Gary day center, is intended to inspire interaction, in a healthy environment, among homeless and at-risk mothers and their children who are clients of Sojourner Truth House.

SCHERERVILLE, IN | Peoples Bank made an investment of its own recently when the Schererville Banking Center donated a large supply of cubicle divider panels to Sojourner Truth House in Gary. Once installed at the day center, the panels will provide increased privacy for approximately 1,500 homeless and at-risk women and children who seek the services of Sojourner Truth House each month.
“Sojourner Truth House is very blessed to have Peoples Bank in its generosity corner,” said Executive Director Sr. Peg Spindler, CSA. “We have needed panels like this for a while now, both to assist our clients, and also for additional, sorely needed office space.”
